The Super Circular Estate project in Kerkrade winning a € 5 million EU-grant.
Under the title of ‘Super Circular Estate’ 12 parties concentrated in the Region Parkstad Limburg engaged themselves in a consortium that submitted their ambitious plans under the Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) program of the European Commission. UIA is a prestigious grant scheme for ground breaking innovative, sustainable urban projects aiming at identifying and testing innovative solutions in an urban setting. The knowledge coming out of the project Super Circular Estate is to be applied and rolled throughout the region, at national level and Europe. For this amongst others the program provides a lead expert for support.
The project aims at a total reuse of materials from demolishing large flats from the 60ies and reuse these in individual detached house more precise in 4 prototypes of a series of total 25.. We are talking e.g. cutting whole houses or large concrete plates from casted concrete. Since circular redevelopment is the primarily goal, not only materials are reused in housing or redesigning public space, but there will be a circular water system as well and also the neighborhoods social capital will be ‘reused’ in a series of yet to be co-designed shared services. Hence the name Super Circular Estate. With the grant a new step in the cooperation of this IBA – project Super Local (Internationale Bauaustellung Parkstad) has been achieved towards resource efficiency.
It is a big achievement of the team of www.GrantsEurope.Eu and Euquest to be so successful helping designing the winning application of Super Circular Estate. Together with the winning sustainable innovative mobility project under UIA in Szeged they proved themselves as competent partners in the field of smart cities again.
A third call of proposals by UIA focusing on Air quality, jobs and skills in the local economy, housing and climate adaptation will be launched at the end of 2017 and probably close April or May 2018.
